We were never meant to do this in isolation

When we show up as we are, when we allow ourselves to be known and to be held, we create opportunity for others to hold us. Vulnerability is a strength in forming authentic community.

Common Questions

What exactly is The Other Mothers' Group?

The Other Mothers' Group is a term of sessions with expert guest facilitators who can guide and support us in different areas of early motherhood, from feeding (IBCLC, Naturopath) to movement (Exercise Physiologist) and beyond. It is a space designed for mothers who are seeking support, community, and education, bringing together a network of local practitioners and mums for community support, and exploring the identity shift of motherhood (matrescence) in a safe, held environment. See the Program for detailed session descriptions.

Who is it for? Do I have to be neurodivergent?

If the description of the group sounds good to you, rest assured that you will be wholeheartedly welcomed. We are explicitly neuroaffirming and the sessions are designed with neurodivergent mums in mind, but we are a home for anyone who is seeking their 'mum tribe' or the right fit for them.

What happens during a typical session?

See the Program for the full outline of speakers and session order, but in essence the first hour is dedicated to the session's focus (navigating matrescence, feeding, moving our bodies, etc) and the last half an hour is freeform socialising. We didn't want the sessions to be too heavy on content for you to take in, just enough to absorb and ponder, so about 20min is spent hearing from the session's invited speaker, leaving 30-40min for questions, discussion, and small consultations with the speaker. Linden is available to convene us and to fetch cups of tea (or equivalent), as well as being happy to watch or hold babies, or simply chat, but she is not aiming to direct conversation beyond setting the focus of each session through the invitation of expert speakers. It is your space to make your own, as a group.

Can I bring my baby or older children?

Absolutely, the intention is for your babies to be very much welcomed and safe in the space! Older children are also very welcome, but we do note that the content is likely to be most relevant to mothers of babies and young toddlers, 6 weeks to 2 years of age. Linden will have her 2 year old, Lucy, joining her.

How do I join or try a session?

This Term is completely FREE for all attendees. You can register for free for a single session or for the whole term, although we recommend committing to the entire eight weeks to get the most out of the social side of the Group. Please reach out at the contact form below to ask any questions. The Program is available here, and we'd love to chat with you about any accommodations that would make joining easier.
